It's just not that important...those last .7miles

I have had a couple of facebook comments today and one from the Commander, "How can you stop running at 25.5 miles? Why not just go .7 more and do a whole marathon?" She razzes me all the time that I'll ride 99.8 miles and stop. It drives her nuts that I don't go around the block to round it up to 100; although she is a bit OCD.

The pregame show: Ride 7 miles to the track. Lay my stuff out: 4 bottles of water, 1 fuel belt bottle of Rocket Fuel, A powergel, an apple, a small pack of pringles, extra shoes. I'm gonna be here awhile!

The Show: 40 x 800's @ 6 - 6:10 min/mile pace (3 -3:04 minutes) with a 1:15-1:25 200m recovery jog. 10,20,and 30 allowed extra recovery and calorie/water/rest/bathroom break.

The result:

Thoughts: Ouch! The last 5 miles hurt. Taking a longer recovery on 30 led to some cramping starting around 33 but I was able to push through by slowing down to a 6:20 -6:30 pace :) and focus of running from my core and using visualization of some great runners. I'm pretty impressed how much I was able to push through by just telling myself, "one more!" but I did take a more direct route home and made the ride "only" 5 miles.

It's been a pretty cool past 3 days. I set a new 5k (in a triathlon) PR by 2 seconds and I just nailed a huge run session that netted me almost a marathon on the track. Next month when I repeat this session (with less recovery) I'll be sure to get those .7 miles!

You may be a dumbass. Screw that. I thought 20 miles on a treadmill was stupid.

Needless to say, I think I am going to pass up your Tennessee camp.
You're too much of a freak.
I will buy you a beer in TX, though, your choice.. pre race or post.. or maybe at mile mark 139.9

Wow is such a small word it doesn't say enough about this.

Looking forward to seeing you crush IMTX.

I once ran with a friend that had to stop at a rounded number. Not me...whatever :)

I stop when it is over. Just that simple.

Sweet, fast times!

Holy cow. And here I was, avoiding a measly, lame, 6 miler.

PS - my Commander does what you do, and it drives me bonkers. I can't not end on an .5 or .0. You weirdos.
